Recommended to me by a very successful local boss babe, James Clear’s Atomic Habits is an easy read filled with practical advice and strategies for mastering habit formation.
The book breaks down the science of habits as mental shortcuts through the use of relatable stories and analogies, and it places huge emphasis on setting up systems rather than focusing solely on goals. There does seem to be a lot of literature out there around goal setting but Clear argues that goals should be seen as momentary events and it’s what comes before the goal that truly matters. The book urges the reader to recognize goals for what they are – the outcome – and to remember that without well-practiced systems in place we have a tendency to revert to old habits following the achievement of goal.
